Grade 7 Physical and Health Education
Link to the Grade 7 Physical and Health Education Curriculum
In Grade 7, we are mainly running a sport education curriculum model with some fitness games and activities in between and throughout some of the seasons. We will be completing 6 different sports this year which include volleyball, floor hockey, basketball, badminton, track and field, and soccer. The main goal of these seasons is to have students learn about all aspects of sport not only from the teacher but from each other as well as the coaches and captains will be classmates. Students will take on different roles throughout each season, and throughout the year. They will have the opportunity to be coach, fitness trainer, referee, scorekeeper, and many aspects of a media team. We may branch out into more roles that could include team mascot, team manager, journalist, and sports board members to handle any major decisions or disciplinary actions.
Note for Parents:
It is very good to keep your children active in many activities outside of school at this age. Find things they really enjoy and monitor that these activities are going well. They need to have positive experiences in these activities because their emotional relationship that they build towards physical activity even at a young age could influence the amount of activity they will continue to do when they are older. We are aiming towards building a love for activity so they continue to be active and healthy for life.
Keep reinforcing that being physically active is good for your body, your brain, and your heart.
Keep reinforcing about good foods and proper hydration, and how good food will give you energy to be more physically active and to help you recover faster
Keep reinforcing that bad foods or not enough of the right foods can lower your immune system, cause body or brain dysfunction, etc.
Always praise effort rather than accomplishment to foster a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset.
You can use the PLAY Assessments to check their skill level and figure out how to improve their proficiency at certain fundamental skills.
Play catch with them, kick a ball with them, practice dribbling or playing sports, try skipping, running, dancing, and jumping rope.
