Classification of Games
This classification of games came from a paper written by L. Almond written in 1986 titled "Reflecting on themes: a games classification". This classification arose because there were many similarities in tactics among certain games. This is now being used widely by teachers that use the TGfU model to teach sports. They do this because they teach tactics to enhance game play and game knowledge so the students can grow an appreciation of the skills that need to be learned. The way sports used to be taught was to teach skills and try to transfer those skills into game play but many students could not transfer the skills into game play or saw little point in putting in effort to the skill development until they were involved in games and could not excel. The games are classified into four categories: Invasion games, net/wall games, fielding/run-scoring games, and target games. I will explain each of these and give examples in their respective pages.
